Inhibition of carbonyl reducing enzymes

AKR1C3 and 2'-OH-flavanoneMembers in project: Lucie Zemanová

Some carbonyl reducing enzymes like AKR1C3, HSD11B1 or AKR1B1 play a significant role in development of several important diseases or complications, e.g. hormone-dependent cancers, metabolic syndrom, diabetes mellitus, cancer resistance. We are interested in substances of natural origin isolated from diverse plants (in cooperation with ADINACO Research Group). These substances can act as inhibitors of carbonyl reducing enzymes; hence they could be potential therapeutic agents. Experiments performed by our workgroup already described strong inhibitor of AKR1C3 called 2'-hydroxyflavanon.
