Placenta in Health and Disease - research projects

Our international and interdisciplinary research group is interested in prenatal development with the main focus on the effect of pharmacotherapy and pathologies during pregnancy on placental functions.

Current projects running in our team include: 

1) Cannabis use in pregnancy; effects on endocrine and immune functions of the placenta

2) Placental tryptophan metabolism linking maternal inflammation and foetal neurodevelopmental disorders

3) Impact of maternal immune activation on serotonergic system in the fetoplacental unit and fetal, juvenile and adult neurodevelopment

4) Placental NLRP3 inflammasome signaling in gestational diabetes and the therapeutic potential of metformin
