Phthalocyanines (Pcs) and their aza-analogues azaphthalocyanines (AzaPcs) are well known synthetic dyes with absorption in the red part of the spectrum. Central cavity of these dyes may complex a wide range of different cations giving the macrocycles specific properties. Periphery of the macrocycle can be decorated with various substituents that modulate solubility, photophysical and photochemical properties or as may allow binding to another moieties (e.g. biomolecules, fullerenes, solid phase, different surfaces etc.). Based on our experiences we are now able to prepare symmetrical or unsymmetrical Pc/AzaPc designed to have intended absorption, photophysical and photochemical properties.
