The InoMed project involves the enhancement research cooperation between FoP CU, FoM HK and UH HK and is made up by four research plans that focus on the pre-application research into innovative medicines and medical technologies in the following areas: anticancer drugs, prevention of the negative impact of cancer treatment on the cardiovascular system, drugs for metabolic liver disease associated with steatosis andcholestasis , and the practical application of clinical pharmacy knowledge in geriatrics.
Goal of the project
The primary objective of the project is to enhance and improve pre-application research at cooperating institutions and increase its competitiveness. The project will form interdisciplinary research teams across institutions in order to optimize the expertise of individual researchers for that objective. In addition, the project will create a formal framework, infrastructural facilities and motivation for the transition from basic research to pre-application and application spheres. The project will also develop capacities and will motivate researchers to strengthen the long-term cooperation with research organizations and the application sphere, including the desirable internationalisation of research. The project aims to take advantage of vast experience in 4 specifically defined areas for the implementation of pre-application research with a significant potential to affect society-wide issues – especially health and the quality of life of the population. We expect to find new drugs of natural and synthetic origins, suitable for the treatment of cancer, and drugs and biomarkers that will prevent the toxic effects of chemotherapy on the cardiovascular system. Another goal is to find an innovative treatment for Nonalcoholic steatohepatitis and cholestasis, and last but not least, software tools will be developed to support a safe and effective pharmacotherapy in geriatric patients. The project's goal is to publish interesting results of preapplication research, but also to protect intellectual property in the form of patent applications and utility models so as to be able to make use of the research results in practice.
Interdisciplinary InoMed research team is consisted of 4 research programmes:
- RP 1 PRE-APPLICATION RESEARCH INTO ANTI-CANCER MEDICINES:
Principal research team manager: Prof. Vladimir Wsól,
Within this research plan, pre-application research will be carried out into new original and newly clinically introduced substances as potential future anti-cancer medicines that might help improve the quality of care and, by extension, the quality of life of oncological patients..
- RP 2 PRE-APPLICATION RESEARCH INTO MEDICINES AND BIOMARKERS PREVENTING THE NEGATIVE IMPACT OF ANTI-CANCER TREATMENT ON THE CARDIOVASCULAR SYSTEM:
Principal research team manager: Assoc. Prof. Martin Štěrba,
This RP is based on the long-term cooperation between the owner and co-owner of the proposed project (FoP CU and FoM HK) and their partner (UH HK) in the field of basic experimental and clinical research into the cardiotoxicity of anti-cancer drugs..
- RP 3 PRE-APPLICATION RESEARCH INTO MEDICINES FOR METABOLIC LIVER DISEASES ASSOCIATED WITH STEATOSIS AND CHOLESTASIS :
Principal research team manager: Prof. Petr Pávek.
Research interest: Pre-application research of novel synthetic nuclear receptor agonists, Pre-applied research of promising nuclear receptor agonists of plant origin, Pre-applied research of clinically used drugs suitable for the treatment of cholestatic diseases.
- RP 4 PRE-APPLICATION RESEARCH INTO RATIONAL PHARMACOTHERAPY IN ELDERLY – DEVELOPING AND PRACTICALLY APPLYING KNOWLEDGE OF CLINICAL PHARMACY IN GERIATRICS:
Principal research team manager: PharmDr. Daniela Fialová.
Research interest: Developing SW1 to allow for identification improper drug prescription and inappropriate dosage in geriatric patients, A validation study of clinical scales assessing the state of health in geriatric patients in relation to the risks of the drugs/drug regimens used, Developing the SW tool 2 (SW2) to enable the identification of dangerous drugdisease interactions in old age, with regard to frequent geriatric symptoms and syndromes, including algorithms of multi-interactions of medications.
