Assoc. Prof. PharmDr. Petr Chocholouš, Ph.D.

Profile at a glance

Petr Chocholouš received his Ph.D. in Pharmaceutical Analysis from the Charles University, where he was Dalibor Šatínský and Petr Solich postgraduate student. He spent seven months at the University of Washington as a postdoctoral fellow, where he worked under the supervision of the father of Flow Analysis – prof. Jarda Růžička. His current position is Associate Professor at the Faculty of Pharmacy, Charles University.

His research interests have spanned a wide range of topics in Flow Analysis and related methods. His career started in 2002 with the born of Sequential Injection Chromatography (SIC), a chromatographic technique hyphenating commercial monolithic column with Sequential Injection Analysis. The technique gradually developed – eliminating weak points of the manifold and utilizing various monolithic or particle packed columns into the flow method for multi-component analysis getting closer to HPLC. He has utilized long-term experience with Flow Analysis to develop flow manifolds for both sample pretreatment and sample analysis, study mechanisms of chromatography, online SPE, and characterization of new SPE sorbents. The methods typically target pharmaceutical analysis, bioanalysis, and oceanography.

Research Interests

• Since 2002 - Development of a new liquid chromatography area involving the application of monolithic columns in the flow methods. The proposed technique is currently being used by many researchers and practitioners around the world and commercial implemented by FIAlab^® in 2007.
• 2004 – 2005 - Development of membrane electrodes for specific potentiometric determination of B1 and B6 vitamins in the sequential injection analysis system(University of Porto)
• Since 2007 – Development of automatic liquid phase micro-extraction method based on sequential injection analysis manifold and its hyphenation with liquid chromatography using the same manifold
• Since 2007 – Development of Bead Injection Lab-On-Valve methods for determination of DNA by antigen interaction (University of Washington)
• Since 2007 – Development of Bead Injection Lab-On-Valve methods for monitoring of live cell metabolism by specific fluorescence dyes and cell counting (University of Washington)
• Since 2009 – Development of Bead Injection Lab-On-Valve methods for solid phase micro-extraction of drugs and drug metabolites from biologic samples and its hyphenation with chromatography on the sequential injection analysis manifold
