Azaphthalocyanine group

The research group focuses on a wide range of aspects concerning phthalocyanines and, in particular, azaphthalocyanines. Synthetic approaches, photophysical and photochemical behavior are studied in several applications. Within this group, the PRIMUS team was established in January 2020 as a subgroup led by Veronika Novakova. This team focuses on synthesis, photophysical study and biological evaluation of selected macrocycles requiring demanding synthesis. For the team members see section People.

  • PhD position available in our group !!! We are looking for a motivated student for a project dealing with the synthesis of acridine derivatives as DNA intercalators (see…). Deadline for applications is on 3rd September 2023. PhD project will be a folow-up study on our recent paper in NAR.

  • July 2023: Veronika Novakova succeeded with her project entitled "Smart photosensitizers: highly-efficient, activatable and aptamer-targeted (SPs-HEAT)" in the prestigious ERC-CZ. The aim of this programme is to support breakthrought czech projects that have succeeded in the European Research Council ("ERC") call for proposals and got A or B in the second round. Congrats!

  • April 2023: our PhD student Filip Kostelansky, Ph.D. won prestigious Prize of Rector of Charles University and was awarded Prize of Mayor of Hradec Kralove for his research in the field of synthesis of new acridine derivatives that have the ability to stabilize DNA duplexes, which was done collaboration with the biotechnology company GENERI BIOTECH and recently published in Nucleic Acids Research.

  • July 2022: Veronika Novakova was honoured with the SPP/JPP Young Investigator Award in 2022 by Society of Porphyrins and Phthalocyanines. Congrats!
